Chapter 3 :

Club

Violette:

HAHA. He can get sick too? Just thinking about it makes me want to laugh. Ah...he's human too, huh? I just remembered. For whatever reason, thinking about him taking medicine, lying in bed with a blanket, and anything related to being sick, it all makes me want to laugh. This will be a good topic to tease him.

After being told about that, I smiled to myself.

"Violette?" the personnel manager called again. I was blinked.

Bloody hell! Why am I smiling here? Ergh!

"H—huh? O—okay, Sir. Thank you for the information. I'll excuse myself."

The manager nodded at me and I bowed slightly, saying goodbye politely to him. After that, I walked out and closed the door.

When I was already behind the door, I started to hold back my laughter. I walked away for a while, then when I was far away from the line of managers' rooms, I laughed as hard as I could. Finally! God had avenged me on that cruel man. Argh! Damn, my stomach hurts from laughing so much.

After I'm done laughing, I finally arrived to the elevator and I immediately entered it, choosing to go to the second floor, the marketing room. I wanted to talk to Megan; spending time with Megan freely would feel good.

When I arrived at the marketing room, everyone was staring at me strangely as usual. I frowned in surprise and confusion; I became the people's attention. However, I just continued my steps to Megan's desk and found her still focused on her work. She was probably taking notes on products that were being planned or had been marketed.

"Megan!" I shouted as I reached her. I tapped her on the shoulder. She jumped, almost falling backwards and my eyes widened. I immediately grabbed her hand to keep her from falling.

Megan rubbed her chest in shock. "You almost made me fall asleep—oh, no—dead, Vio."

I laughed.

"If you die, there won't be any more noise in my life," I joked. Her eyes glared at me and I laughed out loud.

She then shook her head and stood up from her place, approaching someone across the way. "I'll borrow your chair, Ms. Cathy," she said casually. Ms. Cathy was putting her files on her friend's desk and suddenly her chair was taken by Megan. Ms. Cathy was clearly upset, but Megan ignored her. Megan even casually gave the chair to me. I smiled awkwardly, feeling Ms. Cathy's gaze on me as if saying, 'Sit down and I'll curse you.'

I kept biting my lip as I stared at Ms. Cathy, my body froze like an idiot. Megan patted my shoulder. "Come on, sit down. Leave the witch alone."

Ugh, you can relax, Megan, but I can't. Her eyes are glaring at me!

Geez.

I then shook my head, trying to erase all my doubts and finally I tried to sit down. I placed the chair next to Megan and finally I sat comfortably. I don't know what Ms. Cathy's gaze is like now.

"So, why are you here?" Megan asked, making me smile secretly at her. Megan stared at me for a long time without me answering her, then pushed her glasses up her nose, frowning at me who only smiled secretly.

"What's wrong with you, eh?" she asked again.

I finally laughed out loud.

"Hahah—you don't know, do you? I'm so happy today." I winked at her. She frowned even more in confusion.

"Ah... You won the lottery, eh?" she guessed randomly. I rolled my eyes.

"It's not a lottery, Megan."

She went back to her files.

I smiled. "Yeah... It's just because... My boss is not coming today because he's sick."

Megan looked at me and she looked shocked. "He’s sick? Are you serious?"

I laughed. Well, Megan was also surprised, wasn't she?

"Yes, and I'm free! Free, fellas! Woohoo!!" I said, I shouted while throwing my hands up like a monkey in joy. I only realized that I embarrassed myself when everyone's eyes started to look at me. Oh shit. Don't be crazy, Violette.

Finally, I looked at Megan and found her shaking her head at me too, her face seemed to convey great disappointment towards me. Or maybe that was just her blank expression? I didn't understand.

"Well, he seems to be really cruel, huh? He's handsome though," Megan commented.

I giggled.

"It's no use being handsome if he's cruel," I replied, then Megan looked at me enthusiastically. "But Vio. A handsome and cruel person is the one I usually like in movies! Ahhhh, that kind of person makes me curious, you know?! Then, I'll just visit him at his house!" she shouted and I rolled my eyes.

"And you'll be kicked out or maybe you’ll be thrown in the trash can," I said with a straight face. Megan's jaw dropped and her eyes widened. Her mouth could probably fit my fist.

"WHAT? THROW ME INTO THE TRASH CAN?!" she shouted and I nodded quickly. I was afraid that the people in this room would kick us out of here. After that, Megan's expression softened again. She looked back at her files. "Ah, it’s okay if he’s the one who does it," Megan continued. I jumped for a moment, then I exhaled as much as possible because I remembered Megan was crazy from the start.

"Well, Meg, whatever."

She burst out laughing.

Finally, during that afternoon, I was alone with Megan. Justin did not contact me to finish anything, my work yesterday was also finished. Megan and I looked at Ms. Cathy who kept nagging there until she finally got a replacement chair. I helped Megan with her work, then we had lunch together. Without realizing it, it was already evening.

"Aren't you going to visit your boss—uh, what's his name?"

I rolled my eyes. "Justin Alexander, Meg. You've been at this company longer than I have and you still don't know the CEO's name."

"Well, that's him. Aren't you going to visit him, eh? You're his executive assistant, Vio."

"For what? I don't want to visit someone like him," I said with a shrug.

Megan rolled her eyes dramatically. "Hey... Maybe if you go there, he'll change his attitude towards you, right? Or maybe you two will do something romantic there. Like, um... When you make him porridge in his kitchen, he'll hug you from behind, then when you put a compress on his forehead, he'll pull you into bed with him—"

WHAT THE HECK.

I quickly covered Megan's mouth. What the hell was she saying? Was she dreaming? HA. How could someone so cruel like that guy be as sweet as she imagined. Oh, God, just thinking about it makes me feel nauseated, trust me. Just imagining Justin being that sweet makes me want to vomit. Damn it.

"Don't joke around, Meg," I said.

Megan laughed. "Who's joking, huh? Come on, go visit him!" she shouted and my eyes widened.

Suddenly, a familiar voice...like the Marketing Boss's voice, was heard. He was calling Megan.

"Megan, can you deliver this product to the place we went to yesterday? Hurry up, okay?"

Megan immediately stood up and walked towards our Marketing Boss—I mean, he used to be my boss too, but not anymore—and quickly grabbed quite a lot of products. Megan looked at me when her boss had left.

"Vio, I'll borrow your motorcycle for a while, okay?! Just for a moment," she said, then without saying anything she took my motorcycle key which was currently on her table. Well, I brought it with me. She then left before I could say anything. I was still gaping, looking at her with a confused look.

After she left, I leaned my back in the chair I was sitting on. Well, what am I going to do now? Go home? My house is far away and my motorcycle is gone. It's already dusk. Take a taxi? Then what about my motorcycle?

Visiting Justin? Ergh—that's the worst option.

But, dear God, if I think about it, I am his executive assistant and I don't know anything about his condition. Maybe I should visit him for a while. However, I am so scared and lazy to meet that man. If I don't remember the fact that he is my boss, I would rather go home. However, Justin's house is not that far from here. If I go there by taxi, then visit him, Megan can deliver the motorcycle directly to Justin's house. I can tell her the address. If that's the case, I can do something in between waiting for Megan to come back.

Okay, I guess I really should visit Justin.

At that moment, I immediately nodded in certainty and took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. I’m getting ready to get scolded by Justin again. I went out of the company and looked for a taxi.

******

After arriving in front of the apartment building where Justin lived, I walked to the elevator at the end of the lobby, then tried to remember which floor Justin's apartment was on. Pressing the button for 23—the floor where Justin's apartment was—and I just stood there, waiting for the elevator to make a ‘ding!’ sound to indicate that I had arrived.

When I arrived, I got out of the elevator cubicle, then I walked to a door number...wait, I have to remember where Justin's door is. There are so many doors here, goddammit! Which one? Which one is that? Oh my, I might go to the wrong door!

I tried to remember again, knitting my eyebrows together and closing my eyes. I stroked my chin and finally I remembered. Door number five from the elevator, on the left! Ah... Finally.

I pressed a bell next to his door. Three times in a row and he still hadn't opened it. I pressed the bell again twice in a row, then when I was about to press the bell again, suddenly the door opened and my head turned to the side, I found Justin who was now frowning at me in surprise. The door was only slightly open, then Justin almost closed it again if I hadn't stopped him. I held the door with my hand.

"What are you here for?" he asked coldly and I rolled my eyes.

"Open the door first! Let me explain!" I shouted in annoyance, then he finally opened the door. Ouch, it was so tiring holding the door so that it wouldn't close. The problem was, Justin had been trying to push it so the door would close again.

When the door opened, he put his fingers in his pajama pants pocket.

"So, what's up?" he asked.

I clicked my tongue. "Not letting me in, huh?" I asked in annoyance. He just looked at me with one eyebrow raised.

"No," he answered casually. Damn it.

"HEY! LET ME IN, EH?! I'M TIRED TOO BECAUSE I DECIDED TO COME HERE!"

"I didn't ask you to come here," he replied lightly. My eyes widened.

That's true, though.

"Okay, dear Mr. Alexander. I came to visit you." I confessed.

He raised an eyebrow again. Still calmly.

"Okay, now go home."

WHAT? WHAT—WHAT DID HE SAY?

"I JUST ARRIVED, SIR!"

"Yeah, but you already visited me, right? Now go home." He ordered, then tried to close the door again. I then held the door again. "Wait!! I still have some things I want to do! PLEASE, JUSTIN!!!"

He finally opened it again and clicked his tongue slightly. I sighed. He stood still in front of me and a second later he turned around, walking casually turning his back to me. Eh? Does that mean I can come in?

I giggled and went inside, closing the door behind me. Suddenly, he turned around, his hands still comfortably in his pockets.

“Don’t mess up my apartment.” He warned. I frowned, then rolled my eyes. Geez, who would mess up his apartment?

After that, he went away and was no longer within my sight.

I was left in his living room, where we had worked together two days ago and he ended up getting mad at me. Oh yeah, is he still mad or not? Judging from his attitude...it seems normal.

I looked around the room. God! What a mess! Cigarette butts everywhere. Wine bottles were scattered across the table. What was he doing? I covered my mouth with my hand, shocked. Had he been partying or something?

Walking forward, stepping over the bottles that had fallen to the floor and the scattered cigarette butts, I tried to follow the direction where Justin had walked. I frowned, then I walked again and found a door. The bedroom door?

I opened it slowly and went in. I knew it was a bit presumptuous, but somehow I felt relaxed doing this. Was it because we were old friends?

After successfully entering that room, I closed the door behind me. Walking slowly, I saw that his room was not too messy. However, there were many cigarette butts in the ashtray that he placed on his bedside table. I saw him sleeping on his side and covered with a blanket. Does he have a fever or something? I immediately rolled up my blazer sleeves, then put my hands on my hips. I will tidy this all up. My eyes hurt so much seeing the dirty and cigarette-smelling room like this. And him? He shouldn't be in this kind of environment either! He will get sicker!

What a crazy CEO. He can be disciplined in his work, but why doesn't he care about his body? Hell. I immediately walked to the nightstand beside his bed and took the ashtray. I saw a broom in the kitchen earlier and I think I want to sweep now.

"Didn't I tell you not to make a mess? Get out or I'll fire you right now," he said, still in a tone that sounded so cold.

I rolled my eyes. "So, you're telling me to just sit there in front, not doing anything? I'm here to visit you, Sir. At least let me do something for you."

He coughed. "Get out, Vio."

"Not until I'm done, Sir."

"Get out of here or resign from your job. I can do whatever I want with your job right now."

This threat again.

Damn it. If he wasn't my friend, I would have left a long time ago!

I put the ashtray back on the table and put my hands on my hips. "Besides, why didn't you tell me you were sick, huh?! What? What? Because I'm nothing to you? But I'm your executive assistant, Justin!! I'd hate for anyone to find out that I didn't know about what happened to you! I'LL BE LABELED AS A NEGLIGENT EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT IF YOU DO THAT!!!"

"You are negligent," he replied casually.

Oh shit. Huh.

"I DON'T—ERGH!!! IT'S USELESS TO TALK TO A CRAZY PERSON!!!" Oops. I immediately covered my mouth with my palm. I'm dead! I just let it slip... Ergh, damn it.

"What did you just say?" he asked. He asked softly, but his voice sounded intimidating. He sat up from his sleeping position and looked at me with a raised eyebrow. He immediately looked at me with a cruel and intimidating gaze, typical of him. I gulped.

"Ahh...no—no, I was just err...singing, Sir."

He looked at me with his arrogant gaze, his eyebrows raised.

"Get out."

"No," I said, I took the cigarette ashtray again. "Besides, what’s your sickness, eh? Fever? Then what are you doing with this many cigarette butts?! Even your whole room smells of cigarettes! Ergh—my nose really can't stand this smell!!!"

"I stayed up late finishing my work." He answered casually. My eyes widened. Stayed up late finishing his work? Why didn't he tell me? Wait, the last time I saw him, wasn't the work already finished? Didn't I help him? So what else was he working on?

Oh my. Does that mean he hid a job from me and chose to finish it alone? So, what's the use of me? Argh, you crazy person! He was the one attracting this ‘sickness’ problem, then!!

"Didn't I help you? Besides, WHY DID YOU FINISH THE REST OF IT ALL BY YOURSELF, EH? AND YOU HID IT FROM ME?!! I COULD HELP YOU, JUSTIN! YOU'RE THE ONE WHO MADE ME NEGLECTIVE, NOT ME!!"

He coughed. "I'm not hiding it."

I messed up my hair, stressed out facing him who was super cold. "I don't know, I want to sweep," I finally said, giving up on him. Thousands of tantrums from me—as I always said—were always defeated by one word that came from his mouth. I don't know when I can win over his cold attitude.

When I turned around and wanted to leave his room to go to the kitchen to get a broom, suddenly he grabbed my arm. I was shocked and turned to the side, it turned out that now he was standing beside me and holding my arm tightly. My eyes widened, "Just—JUSTIN!! Let go!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING, HUH?!!"

He just kept quiet and took the ashtray I was holding, then put it back on the table. I stared at all his movements with my jaw dropped, then he pulled me. He pulled my arm and dragged me out of his room. He pulled me like he was pulling a little kid again.

"Hey!! JUSTIN!! WHAT'S THIS? ARE YOU GOING TO DRAG ME OUT?!!!!" I shouted and clicked my tongue when I found him just standing and walking in front of me, his back to me. He kept dragging me and finally when we arrived in front of the door, I was shocked. Is he really going to throw me out?

"You always talk back to me, Violette. This is the only way to get you out." He pulled my arm again. I squirmed to be released, but he was stronger than me. He pushed my back out of the door, then he closed the door. I was immediately shocked and turned around again, banging on the door hard, then pressing the bell repeatedly like someone who was impatient to pee. "Hey!!! OPEN THE DOOR!!!! HEY!!!! JUSTIN!!!! I'M NOT DONE!!!!"

I kept knocking on the door and ringing the bell, but there was no answer. I guess he had gone back to his room. Damn it. I exhaled loudly. I was tired, but it only made me even more angry. However, I couldn't vent my emotions. I just let out a resigned breath, gave in, and then shrugged. Well, it couldn't be helped. I just had to go home.

I walked with limp steps and got into the elevator, then went down to the ground floor.

******

Shit. There haven't been any taxis passing by since earlier. I've been waiting for a long time in front of this apartment building.

With a fairly loud breath, whining to hold back tears, and feeling tired, I stamped my feet as I walked along the sidewalk. Oh my God!! I was tired of being in the office until the afternoon (even though I was just chatting with Megan), tired of coming here only to be mad, thrown out, and also now there were no taxis. What is this? A nightmare? I stamped my feet along the road, my eyes already filled with tears because I wanted to cry. I was so tired! Not tired from walking, but because I was now in a bad mood.

Suddenly, I remembered my motorcycle. Where is my motorcycle? What took Megan so long? Oh hell please, Megan, it's already night! Where is she?

I immediately took my cellphone from my bag, then immediately looked for Megan's phone number in my contacts. I immediately called her.

She picked up my call on the first ring. I took a deep breath.

"Hello, Vio? I'll call you back later, okay? I'm not done yet. I'll return your motorcycle later, sorry," she said quickly, then she just hung up the phone call. I was stunned. I hadn't even said a word!! Oh my God, I think I've done something wrong to someone else to be punished with such bad karma.

I immediately clicked my tongue in annoyance and almost cried, then in annoyance I put my phone back into my bag. I walked again with strong and fast stamping feet; I whined all the way. Until finally, I entered an alley. Hell! The journey from the office to my house was quite far, let alone from Justin's house to my house! I couldn't guarantee that my feet would be okay. Unfortunately, not a single taxi had passed in front of me and even if there was, the driver definitely didn't see me waving hard as if I was meeting my idol. Even when I chased after the taxi, the taxi driver still didn't see me. Ha. Does he have eyes or not?

I walked again and started to enter an alley—the alley that was indeed the path I always passed when I went home—and I looked at the park beside this alley. There were chairs on the edge of the park and I saw children crying. There was no older woman there, so where was their mother? There were two children, one looked a little bigger. I frowned, then I approached that two children.

One of the bigger ones had apparently just snatched the other one's ice cream. Oh, so that's what it was all about.

I immediately approached one of the children who was crying and crouched in front of the child who was actually sitting on a chair at the edge of the park.

"What's wrong, hmm?" I asked. He kept crying, then he wiped his nose.

"Ice cream... My ice cream!!!!!!" he shouted loudly. I was shocked. Then, I looked around and I found an ice cream seller at the end of the park. I immediately smiled, stood up, and walked near the ice cream seller.

I bought one, then I went back to the child. After that, I gave him the ice cream. "Here. Don't cry anymore, okay?" I coaxed to calm him down. He fell silent. Indeed, he was still sobbing, but he still took the ice cream from my grasp. After that, he stared at me silently with his round eyes and I smiled softly at him.

"Ah... I'm sorry, was my son being rude to you? I'm sorry, Miss!"

A mother's voice reached my ears and I looked up, looking for her. It turned out that she had approached us and she quickly took her two children. I smiled.

"It's okay, Ma'am," I said.

She nodded at me and smiled too. "What are you doing alone this late at night, hmm? You're beautiful, I’m afraid something will happen to you."

I laughed. "Ah...no, it’s okay, Ma'am."

Besides, beautiful? I am not beautiful.

After that, she nodded again. "Alright. Hurry go home, Miss. We'll go first, okay?"

I nodded. "Yes, Ma'am."

She left me while holding her two children. I sighed and turned around, then walked straight back into the hallway.

It was very dark here at night. I had never walked here before and it felt even more terrifying. I rubbed my arms because I suddenly felt cold, my breath seemed to start looking like a smoke because it was so cold.

I kept walking and let out my cold smoky breaths over and over again, feeling that my whole body was now cold and sore. Today felt more tiring, even more tiring than when Justin was around two days ago.

SNAP!

Oh shit!! My foot slipped and I just realized something. One of my high heels was broken! Oh, God, this is annoying!!! I bent down and immediately took off one of my high heels, staring at the heel that was already broken and almost falling off. I snorted and gritted my teeth.

WHAT ELSE IS THIS, EH? WHY IS MY LUCK SO BAD TODAY?

Damn it. Feeling annoyed, I opened the other one and threw the two high heels carelessly. With all my strength, I threw them away along with all my anger. "DAMN IT!!!!!"

Suddenly, a taxi passed in front of me. I immediately waved. The taxi stopped in front of me and I remembered something. I immediately checked my wallet and DAMN. I’VE RUN OUT OF MONEY BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE KIDS ICE CREAM...

Please, Lord, forgive my sins. If only it would rain money right now...

In a stupid way, I awkwardly grinned and scratched the back of my neck—which wasn't itchy—while saying ‘I’m sorry, Sir, I’ll cancel this. I don’t bring my money.’ to the taxi driver. The taxi driver just drove off, left me behind.

Wow. Luckily, he wasn't mad at me...

Damn it. Everything just happened and hit me like a truck. It was like I fell while digging a hole and was hit by layers of soil. Shrinking like an used origami paper on the side of the road, I felt so embarrassed.

I ended up walking barefoot. My skirt was knee-length and it really hurt, the night wind felt like it was piercing my body. I walked with my face down and I think my face was red from holding back my anger, tears, and also embarrassment. Everything was mixed up!!

As I got further into the hallway, I felt someone following me. I frowned; I knew I was being followed. Back then, I was used to applying various tactics against enemies when I was a member of the Red Lion. So of course I knew if I was being followed or threatened. I immediately knitted my brows together to focus as I continued walking. I knew that the person was following me.

When I reached a fairly narrow road, I stopped. However, it seemed like he kept walking towards me. I immediately turned around and kicked him in the stomach.

"What do you want, huh?" I asked and stood up straight again. He sat down and smirked at me. I frowned and he stood up immediately.

Geez, this is Seth. My neighbor!! He is my neighbor who is always drunk and I am very annoyed with his attitude; he always approaches me. I don't know, I don't want to deal with him. However, when he is not drunk...he is actually a good person.

"Huh... You kicked me, eh? Come on, Vio... We can have fun," he said, then he pushed me until my body was pressed against a large tree on the side of the small road. He hugged me and damn! I wanted to throw up when I smelled the scent of his clothes that smelled of alcohol!

"Seth—you're drunk!! Get away from me!!"

"Hey, we can have some fun... Oh c'mon, Baby, you are so beautiful... Do you know that, hmm?" he said in an annoying tone.

I squirmed to be released, then grabbed his arms so I could push him off. I also tried to push his chest. DAMN! Why is he so strong? I don't usually lose to guys, except Justin! What is this? Is it because Seth is drunk?

"You won't be able to escape, Vio..."

"SETH!!! OH PLEASE, C'MON SETH! YOU'RE OUT OF YOUR MIND!!! SETH!!!!! YOU—"

"What a smelly bastard."

I jumped. Whose voice was that? Why did it sound familiar to my ears? I immediately turned to the side, and so did Seth.

"JUSTIN?!!!" I shouted. Oh, no wonder those words sounded annoying. But why is this man here?!!

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, HUH?!!" I shouted, but he didn't even look at me. He just stared coldly at Seth. After that, I saw Seth smirking, releasing his grip on me. My body almost swayed, but I managed to stand up straight again. I let out a sigh of relief, then sucked in as much oxygen as I could. Damn, I almost died, I think.

Seth immediately approached Justin who was standing about three meters beside us. Quite far, but Seth approached Justin with his unsteady steps. Justin just stood there without expression.

When Seth got there, Seth immediately tried to beat Justin. Over and over again, but all of his punches were blocked by Justin. All of his punches failed and finally Justin return his favor with one punch that immediately made Seth fall to the asphalt. I covered my mouth with one of my hand. However, I was not surprised because Justin used to be a former member of Red Lion, just like me. In the past, Justin was the one our leader always relied on. I was just stunned when I saw my neighbor lying on the road. What would my uncle say?

"Ju—Justin, h—he's my neighbor," I stuttered. He just let out a faint sigh and put his hands back in his pockets. He was now wearing a suit. He was neat, unlike when he was in his apartment earlier. Earlier, at his house, he was only wearing a plain white t-shirt and a long gray pajama pants. He looked so cute and innocent like that. However, when he wore a suit, his figure changed 180 degrees and his cruelty became more obvious.

"No wonder his behavior is just like yours." He said casually. My eyes immediately widened. With steps like a demon—and breath that blew like a raging bull—I then approached him who had now turned his back to me and walking casually. I immediately approached him quickly and hell! Why do I still can’t match his steps?

"WHAT DID YOU SAY? THE SAME AS ME?!! SAY IT AGAIN, MR. ALEXANDER!"

"Hmm."

DAMN!!

"JUSTIN!!!!!" I shouted and ran as fast as I could until I finally reached him, blocking his path with my arms spread wide. I was standing right in front of him. However, he only raised an eyebrow at me.

Without saying anything, he passed through my outstretched hand—which was blocking him—and then he walked from the side. I then widened my eyes.

He's already passed me and is already walking in front of me again. DAMN IT!

"HEY, JUSTIN!!!!!! Oh shit," I cursed while clicking my tongue. I immediately ran again. Now I was walking close to him, maybe just an inch behind him because I was so close to him that I was almost touching him. "HEY, WAIT FOR ME!!! At least tell me why you're here!!!"

He just kept quiet.

"JUSTIN! DID YOU HEAR ME? HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET IN HERE, HUH?! WERE YOU NOT WRESTLING WITH YOUR BLANKET IN YOUR ROOM?!"

He turned around. Staring at me with his cold gaze.

"Shut up, Violette. Is it polite to say that your boss is wrestling with his blanket? And again, don't embarrass me by walking around barefoot and without a vehicle."

I glared at him in annoyance, too irritated by him. "MY MOTORCYCLE—ERGH. Okay. Enough with that. My heel is broken AND I CAN'T GO WITH A TAXI BECAUSE I'M OUT OF MONEY. ARE YOU SATISFIED, MR. ALEXANDER?"

"I will be satisfied if you keep quiet," he said shortly. Damn it. Didn't he just taunt me because he wanted to hear an explanation from me? So, what is this? This is the kind of damn response I always get from him when I try to explain. Is he a human or not?

Finally, because I was annoyed and furious, I kept quiet. I felt that I was tired and I didn't want to faint on the road just because I was even more tired from fighting him.

After walking for a long time, I realized. Why did I follow him?

Oh. This is because I was angry with him earlier.

"Since you're so bold as to follow me, then you have to follow me until I'm done," he said.

I widened my eyes. He didn't even bother to turn to look at me.

"Wh—where?!!!" I shouted in surprise.

"To a club near here."

Huh?

Club?!

WHAT ELSE IS THIS MAN GOING TO DO, HUH? Why does everything he does always successfully making me angry?! []

Chapter 2 :

Be His Executive Assistant

Violette:

AFTER saying that sentence, I just left.

I don't care about whatever he says. I'm correct, right? He's annoying! With his expressionless face, he could insult me dozens of times today. He doesn't even feel guilty and instead blames me. What the heck? Justin wasn't like that before!

I walked out of his room and the corner of my eye caught him raising an eyebrow at me. Well, damn! He's still acting like that? Okay, why does this room suddenly feel hotter than hell?

As I rushed out of his office, I slammed the door shut. I was satisfied that I had slammed the door shut so hard. I thought maybe that would help him think. I went home—not caring if he would punish me or what—and didn’t care about the looks people were giving me. Leaving the company, I headed to the employee parking lot and found my motorcycle. It felt like my veins were popping out when I turned the key. I put on my helmet quickly and when my motorcycle started, I drove it at high speed. Crazy! Why is my workplace now being the place I feared the most?

When I arrived home, I immediately parked my motorbike outside and entered the house with wide step. Jonathan, my uncle, looked at me with amazement.

"Did you skip work?" he asked. He stood up from the couch where he usually watched television.

"I ran away," I said carelessly and I walked with my feet stamping; I went straight into my room. He seemed to be gaping, but I don't know, I didn't see him. I just closed my bedroom door and lay down on my bed. Burying my face in the bed and hoping that I would never meet that devil again.

Suddenly, my bedroom door opened.

"Tell me what made you run away from your workplace today."

Okay, that was Jonathan's voice. I lifted my face and immediately sat on the edge of the bed. He was still leaning on the door frame, his hand on the doorknob.

"I was asked to change my position to become the CEO's executive assistant and that CEO turned out to be Justin."

My uncle's eyes narrowed, he looked surprised.

"Justin? I mean—are you sure? How could he be a CEO there?"

"Hm. Never mind, Nathan. I have a headache."

Nathan sighed. "Okay, but promise me you'll be back to work tomorrow. If you don't, I'm taking away your lunch."

My eyes widened. Oh please. Lunch is the best! Aaarrgh! Why does everyone seem to be pressuring me to see that guy again? Damn it.

Nathan closed my bedroom door again and I threw myself on the bed. This was the worst day in my entire life and I thought the next day would be much worse.

Well, I think I need a mask to cover my face.

Seriously? Yesterday I left Justin in his room with harsh words and behave arrogantly. And now? Where will I put my face if I go back to him and ask him for a job? After thinking about it, how could I leave my job just because of that one man. There are many things I should care about more than that man.

But I was so embarrassed! I’m sure that man would scold me to death. Insult me to my bone.

I got off my motorcycle, entered the company with shaking and cold hands. My lips is dry and my face is hot. I realize that I’m so embarrassed. I’m sure as hell that Justin will insult me for being so arrogant yesterday. But, okay. Relax, Vio. If he insults you, you have high heels ready to throw at his head.

I ran into the elevator and went straight to the thirteenth floor. I was so upset the whole time I was in the elevator. The 'ding' sound from the elevator sounded like a death gong in my ears.

I went outside and walked slowly towards that impressive CEO’s door. Right, very impressive.

My feet felt so heavy walking towards the door. When I arrived, my body suddenly froze. I swallowed my saliva and tried to calm the rumbling in my chest. I inhaled and exhaled my breath for several times. After feeling calm, I clenched my fists and raised them into the air, in front of my face.

"Okay." I muttered—cheering myself up—then I knocked on the door while closing my eyes in fear. Three times.

"Yes, come in."

My eyes widened. Okay, now's the time.

I opened the door, lowered my head in shame, and closed it behind me. When I turned around, I jumped back because the man was standing just around two meters in front of me!

"H—hi," I said, then I realized I sounded like an idiot. Damn it!!!

"Why did you come back? Didn’t I not the Justin you know? And if I'm not mistaken, you said something like, 'Listen, Mr. Bossy. You. Are. Not. The. Justin. I. Know. Period.'

...am I right, Miss?"

I bit my lower lip. I'm dead!

"I—I... Sorry, I umm—"

"Is it polite to say that to your boss, Miss?" he said, tilting his head with a sarcastic smile. He was taking a swipe at me.

I huffed, then clenched my fists. "No, Sir."

"Well, if you understand, why don't you come out?"

He was baiting me again, as usual. "Because I need my job."

He looked at me and it looked like he was investigating me.

"You need it, but you were the one who threw it away."

I took a deep breath, letting out all of my emotions that were really demanding to be released.

"I—ARGH!! HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO APOLOGIZE, HUH?!!" I yelled and damn! I failed to control my emotions. He raised an eyebrow.

He just kept staring at me, waiting for my next reaction. Who wouldn't be angry when I yelled at him but were still ignored? He’s really a jerk.

"Okay, tell me how to make you forgive me. I've had enough of this," I said, starting to get annoyed. I shook my head and shrugged. He put both of his hands in his pockets, then looked me up and down with narrowed eyes. He thinks I'm a trash can, eh? Why is he looking at me like that?

I huffed, trying to hold back my anger. “Walk round the room at a brisk pace, three times.”

WHAT?

"Huh?"

He tilted his head.

"Get out of my room and don't come back if you refuse."

Oh shit. This threat again.

I sighed, closed my eyes for a moment and shrugged. When I opened them, I scratched my forehead while rolling my eyes, then I finally walked quickly around that super large room. He smirked and went back to his desk, working on his laptop again.

I kept walking fast, but I would stop every now and then. He didn't see me, did he? This was a chance to take a short break.

Wow. This room is very wide.

"Don't stop, Ms. Morgan," I heard him say shortly.

SHIT! Oh God, help me...

He has six eyes, huh? How did he know that I stopped, while his eyes were focused on his laptop? Oh my God. It's hard to fight against the devil.

I walked quickly again and after finishing, I walked towards my desk with a heavy breath. I immediately sat down in my chair. Still out of breath, suddenly I heard him speak again, breaking my concentration to adjust my breathing.

"This." He stood up from his chair, handing me a piece of paper. I stole a gleance at it and looked up at him. Then I reached for it.

"Those are the hundred rules that I told you yesterday. Read it all and obey it. I remember all of them, so don't you dare break any of them."

WHAT? HE MEMORIZED ALL THE RULES FOR ME? EVEN THOUGH HE JUST MADE THIS?

Wow, give him some applause.

"Wow. You...remembered everything? Amazing," I praised, my jaw dropping involuntarily as I shook my head in disbelief.

"Hmm," he cleared his throat, then he sat back down. He then returned to his laptop. My eyes began to explore one by one the rules he made. Well, not paying attention to his opening words anymore, I went straight to the order of the rules.

1. Arrive at the office at 6:30 am. Must arrive earlier than the CEO.

2. Wear a neat uniform and be disciplined.

3. Do not smoke.

4. Do not drink alcoholic beverages, except with the permission of the CEO.

5. Doing some of the work of the CEO’s assistants to deliver files to authorized directors and managers.

6. Must attend appointments determined by the CEO.

7. Accompany the CEO wherever he goes.

8. Only do what the CEO orders and do not neglect any of the tasks assigned.

9. Lunch or break times are determined by the CEO.

10. Has the right to provide suggestions or input and improvements to what the CEO is doing.

11. Have high manners and solidarity, especially towards the CEO.

12. Maintain your attitude.

Oh God—enough, stop this! There are a hundred of them and reading them up to twelve is already making my head spin! What the hell is this? Why does this executive assistant’s job seem like it’s sacrificing my life to him? Has this been the rule all along? Why does everything have to be from his orders and with his approval? Even lunchtime has to be his decision? It doesn’t make sense. I glared and crumpled the paper in anger.

"Hey!! Why are the rules so unreasonable, huh?!! What the heck, I just have to do what you tell me to do—okay, I can accept that, but how about lunch and break times? What if you let me take a break at night? I might pass out!!! Plus, do I have to follow you wherever you go?”

I shook my head and then I babbled again, "This one too: 'No smoking'. You know I don't smoke!!! Then, doing some of the assistant's work? I think there’s too many of them already! What do they do? My job of serving you like this is already very hard and you're making it even more complicated! This isn't an executive assistant, but a loyal bodyguard! You really—"

"Here, please give this file to the industrial manager on the twelfth floor, okay? The door is at the very end."

What?! He ignored me?!

"Just—ERGHHH!!!" I shouted. However, I realized that his eyes were staring at me with a narrowed gaze.

"Okay," I finally said after letting out a few angry breaths and unclenching my fists. Thousands of words from my mouth were burned just like that because of one word from his mouth. It was amazing. Amazing, to the point where I wanted to kick him right now.

He pushed a folder to the edge of his desk and I reluctantly went to pick it up. He didn't even look at me!! Damn his flat expression. What should I do to make it not flat anymore? Slap it with a pan? Wok?

I walked out with stomping feet, but I closed the door of the room too slowly, half-heartedly trying to hold back my emotions again. Okay, I know I can't hold my emotions stably yet because sometimes my anger still come out too.

I walked into the elevator and went down one floor. Exiting the elevator, I looked for the room at the very end and I found a sign 'International Industry Manager' in front of the door of the room. Then, I knocked on the door softly. After being invited in, I politely gave the folder from Justin and then I went back out. Well, I was more polite to them than to the CEO. Even though the CEO is the highest position here, but hey! Whose fault is it? He's annoying.

When I walked back into Justin's room and closed the door, I took a deep breath. However, when my eyes fell on Justin's desk, I gasped.

He fell asleep.

I approached him slowly and I was now standing near his desk, next to him. I was still stunned, he was asleep and his head was turned to the side, his hands were resting beneath his head.

He looks...innocent.

I tilted my head to look at his face. That’s such a baby face. Well, but this face is so annoying when he's awake. He's so cute when he's asleep; he's adorable. I didn't expect him to be so mean when he's awake. I prefer his face when he's asleep. Sleep forever, then.

I know it's mean. But trust me, I smile softly when I see his face. So cute, peaceful, and calm. Ah... If only he was like the old Justin.

I shook my head and went back to my desk. I continued reading the rules—annoyed that the person who gave me the rules was sleeping—and then my eyes felt heavy and I fell asleep.

******

I flinched; my body responded to the pain—the impulse—that was given suddenly at this moment; it was like someone had just flicked my forehead. I suddenly woke up, sat up straight, and shook my head to wake myself up completely. My eyes were now fully open. When I looked up, my eyes widened and I almost did a somersault backwards along with my chair. Almost, oh my God.

This is what made me instantly angry. JUSTIN! Yeah, Justin woke me up. Hell! Was there no other way besides flicking my forehead? Shit.

"JUSTIN!!! DON'T FLICK PEOPLE'S FOREHEADS AS YOU WISH!!" I shouted while rubbing my aching head. He just raised an eyebrow and shrugged vaguely. I gritted my teeth and glared at him.

"Well, see rule number 86. No sleeping before the CEO gives you a break time."

I clicked my tongue and then huffed. He just kept looking at me with his cold gaze.

"Yes, but don't hit my forehead—"

"Come with me to my house. It's getting late and we should finish some more errands at my house."

Huh? Another nightmare. Going to his house. "To—to your house?"

"Hm." He cleared his throat briefly, then turned around and handed me some folders. "Take these, okay?" he said, then he turned and walked out just like that. I was stunned and then I ran after him.

"Wait for me!!!!" I shouted, I ran after him until I reached his car which was neatly parked in the parking lot. It has special space for directors.

Wow, his red Bugatti is so cool and so fast. I feel so comfortable and sometimes he makes fun of me because I act like I've never been in a car.

Violette just followed Justin from behind. Entering an apartment building and taking the elevator to the 23rd floor. Oh my God, it was kind of far. The apartment building was incredibly grand. Violette was used to seeing things like that, especially considering that she used to often do many missions with Red Lion in big buildings like that. However, Violette still couldn't keep her eyes off of it, she turned her gaze around as if she was monitoring. Until without realizing it, she was left behind by Justin's steps several times.

When she arrived in front of Justin's apartment, Justin swiped a card in front of his door and pressed his password number.

Violette just kept quiet and pursed her lips when she saw him. Right when they entered, Violette looked around Justin's room. Wow, this is super elegant.

Not much different from Justin's apartment when he lived in Paris back then, but this one was dominantly colored with blackish gray. The dark and elegant impression made Violette swallow her saliva. There were many glamorous decorations on the walls and paintings by Michelangelo there. Many small crystal lamps hung in the corners of the room and it seemed that at night it would look very...um…people used to call it romantic. However, the room was not too dark. It actually looked…sweet?

Justin led Violette in and they went through a hallway. Then they arrived at a living room. There were four sofas facing each other, two long and the other two were just square shaped. In the middle of the sofas there was a table made of marble. That’s very unique. In front of it was a television.

"Sit here. I'll get you something to drink." Justin said casually and Violette could only nod. Justin went to the kitchen counter and got a large bottle of Sprite, then grabbed two glass. He then grabbed the pudding that was in the fridge and placed it on two small plates, then went outside. He brought it to Violette and she smiled.

"Thanks," Violette said. Justin sat down next to Violette and poured Sprite into his glass. After that, Justin drank it and put his glass back on the table. Violette put the folders next to her.

"Where are the files I asked you to bring earlier? Let's do it. Help me find the files that I need to sign," Justin said. Violette nodded, then started flipping through the paper and Justin lit his cigarette. When the sound of the lighter lit the cigarette in Justin's fingers, Violette watched him with a sharp gaze.

"I don't like seeing you smoke."

"Have you looked at the files I asked you for?" Justin asked. Violette rolled her eyes, Justin didn't hear her comment at all. Smoke was already spreading around them and Violette was coughing. Justin looked at the files that Violette had just given him, then took a pen from his suit pocket and signed the files one by one. Violette just watched him.

Justin looks like a bad guy. But...why does he look cool when he smokes like that? Especially when he exhales his smoky breath. Oh shit! Violette shook her head. How could she like seeing people smoke? No!!

"That's it," Justin said. "Anything else?"

Violette blinked and looked for the remaining files, but they were all done. "All done, sir."

Justin nodded. "Okay. Eat your pudding and drink."

Violette nodded and sighed, then poured herself a Sprite. Violette took a quick sip, not even realizing she was that thirsty. Justin squinted.

"Besides being talkative, you're reckless," Justin said casually. Violette immediately choked, let go of her drink and coughed. It didn't stop, instead the coughing got stronger because the drink Violette was drinking was a carbonated drink. Justin just looked at all of that with a straight face. Damn it! He had no intention of helping Violette!

After her coughing stopped, Violette glared at Justin. "DON'T TALK TO ME WHILE I'M DRINKING!!!"

Justin just raised an eyebrow. "It's your fault."

"You—" Violette growled, but Justin just took another drag on his cigarette and leaned back.

Violette sighed, feeling very tired today. Being angry all day, nagging all day, oh. All of these things made her head hurt.

It was silent for a few moments after Violette leaned her body next to Justin on the sofa. Violette had already arranged the files back into the folder before she leaned on the sofa.

Only the sound of Justin smoking was there. Justin kept blowing his smoky breath into the air and the smoke spreaded around them.

"Justin," Violette called. Justin just turned to her. "Since when did you become the CEO? How did you get there?" Violette asked, she should have asked this when she first met Justin yesterday. However, because Justin was annoying at that time, she could only ask him when they were sitting quietly like this.

"The company belongs to my uncle. I found him three years ago. He wanted to retire, so he handed it over to me. I've only been the CEO of the company for a year now."

Violette's eyes widened, she turned enthusiastically to Justin. "Wow? So you lived with your uncle for those three years, huh? Then we're the same," Violette said.

"I don't want to be equalized with you," Justin said nonchalantly. Violette's eyes narrowed as sharp as a razor. Damn this guy, she thought.

"Well, you're always arrogant. Not like the old Justin."

Justin clicked his tongue, straightened his body and glared at Violette sharply. "Stop comparing me and saying that I'm not the same Justin as before, Violette. Listen, no matter how bad I am in your eyes, I haven't forgotten you and everything we’ve had. You hear me?" He huffed. "You better stay away from me if you keep talking about the past in front of me. I don't like it," Justin said sharply.

Violette shocked, gaping in disbelief. What the hell was wrong with Justin? He hated talking about the past... Well, what made him like this? Didn't everything end well in the past? Violette gulped.

Justin put out his cigarette in the ashtray and then he stood up.

"Your job is done. You can go home," he said, then he just left to another room, leaving Violette dumbfounded in the living room. Violette suddenly stood up and Violette's eyes looked like she wanted to ask Justin for an explanation.

"Justin!" Violette shouted, but Justin was no longer visible in her eyes. Violette closed her eyes tightly in annoyance and confusion. He was one hundred percent different! Not the Justin she knew! Violette secretly felt sad, losing her friend who used to always be with her as a coworker. She honestly missed Justin, but Justin was different now. The current Justin also didn't want to be reminded of his past. How could Justin remember how happy they used to be with Red Lion and Hillda if he was like that? That man had really changed.

Violette took a deep breath, then she stepped out of Justin's apartment and closed the door. Closing her eyes (trying to be patient), Violette finally stepped towards the elevator to go down to the lobby.

The next day, Violette went back to work and didn't find Justin in his office. Well, Violette just shrugged because that was the rule, right? She had to come earlier than Justin. Violette was also calm because she didn't have to face the devil's anger early.

However, Violette was still surprised by last night's incident.

She was still thinking about last night's problems and it felt like Violette would scold Justin for deciding to forget his past. The past can be forgotten, but not completely! Just learn from it, it's better than forgetting it completely and treating it all like an endless nightmare. That would become a grudge in his heart and might darken his future.

After waiting for a few hours, Justin still hadn't arrived. Violette waited for Justin anxiously. When she finally realized that Justin might not come to the office today, Violette became worried. Well, there was no way a man who enforced discipline like that could be late. So it seemed like Justin wasn't coming today. Violette shrugged and then she sighed. Maybe talking to Megan would make her feel better. Besides, Justin wasn't coming today.

Violette entered the elevator and got off on the second floor, then she went to the marketing room. She entered the marketing room and was greeted with strange, surprised, and amazed looks from everyone. Violette frowned when she felt everyone's gaze on her. It was a bit uncomfortable actually, but that's how people were looking at her right now. Violette lowered her head, embarassed. Not long after, she heard a familiar scream. The voice gradually sounded closer to her.

"VIOLETTE!!! AH, I FINALLY MET YOU!!!!"

Ah...it's Megan. Violette lifted her face and smiled brightly. Megan immediately rushed into Violette's arms and Violette hugged her back while laughing. After that, Megan pulled Violette to walk near the girl's desk and took a chair for Violette so that Violette could sit next to her. It was unclear whose chair Megan took, but it was clear that the owner was ranting there because she was annoyed. Violette was stunned when she was listening to that person's ranting, but Megan made called her again, shook her arm and invited her to sit down. Finally, Violette sat down.

Megan started looking at Violette with an enthusiastic gaze. A thousand times more enthusiastic than usual.

"Violette! For God's sake... How was your day? I haven't seen you for two days and it feels like a year... What happened? Wow... The last time I saw you, you were being dragged away by a handsome young man! Last time too, I found out that he was our CEO. Our CEO!! Oh my God...!"

Violette just chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of her neck which wasn't itchy at all.

Megan poked Violette's waist and the girl bounced because of it. "Hey... Come on... Tell me. He was really handsome!! I couldn't breathe at that time!" Megan said, she told the story with wide eyes and a gaping mouth. "I can't believe it if I were you. I MIGHT HAVE A CONVULSION ON THE SPOT!!!!!" Megan shouted, until all eyes were on the two of them.

Violette winced, she panicked and signaled 'don’t-be-so-loud' to Megan with her facial expression. Megan gaped, forming her mouth into a big 'O' and acting as if she was shocked like an idiot. Violette rolled her eyes and shook her head. However, Megan just laughed.

"But, dear God... His golden spike hair, his muscular body, his neat clothes, his masculine scent, his handsome face and unbothered expression, his body movements..." Violette forced Megan's mouth shut with her palm.

"Enough, Meg, enough. You’re exaggerating it," Violette said, trying to calm Megan down. Megan held Violette's hand that was covering her mouth and squirming uncontrollably. Finally, Violette removed her hand from Megan's mouth.

"HAHAHA. Well, you're probably used to it because you've seen it so many times, Violette. But, WHAT ABOUT ME? I'VE ONLY SEEN IT ONCE AND I THINK SOMETHING IS DIFFERENT HERE," she said, pointing right at her heart. Violette felt like she was going to throw up. Megan laughed out loud.

"Okay, just kidding. BUT I AM SO AMAZED BY HIM!!! WHAT DID YOU TWO DO YESTERDAY? WHAT? WHAT, VIO? COME ON TELL ME!!! AHH I'M SO EXCITED TO HEAR IT!!!"

Violette winced again, giving in to Megan's super hysterical and hyper-active attitude. Ergh—are there any tissues here? Violette needed them to stuff Megan's mouth.

"We didn't do anything, Megan. I'm always fighting with him."

Megan frowned, her expression looking a little surprised because Violette told her something she didn't expect, it was actually the opposite of what she did expect.

"Why?" she asked in a disappointed tone.

"I don't know... He doesn't like it when I bring up the past and yeah... That's it. He always gets on my nerves and we always argue," Violette said with a shrug.

Megan gaped, frowned, and moved closer to Violette.

She was surprised and enthusiastic at the same time.

"Wow, why is that? It seems like your relationship with him is not going well," Megan said. Violette nodded.

"Yeah, that's it. He was so annoying and...we never got along."

Megan stroked Violette's back. "Be patient... Maybe after a while you'll get used to it and both of you will stop fighting," she said, trying to calm Violette down. Violette sighed.

"Yeah... I hope so."

Megan nodded and Violette smiled at her.

The next day, Violette returned to the office and entered Justin's office. She waited for several hours and Justin still didn't come. What is wrong with that guy? Yesterday, Violette didn't really care about what happened to him. However, it’s been two days. There’s no way that a disciplined person like that would be so negligent, especially since it’s been two days! Violette bit her nails, feeling panicked. What was wrong with Justin?

Violette went outside, got into the elevator and went down to the twelfth floor, then looked for one of the managers' rooms and knocked softly on the manager's door. She had to know what happened to Justin! She was Justin's executive assistant, after all. If Justin needed her help with work, Violette should help him, right? So, she had to know how Justin was doing. Why didn't Justin say anything?

After the sound of 'Come in' from Justin's subordinate (HR Manager), Violette entered the room and bowed respectfully. Then, Violette began to ask politely whether the manager knew about what happened to Justin.

Huh, Violette really had to be brave to ask someone else about something like this, when she, the executive assistant, should know more about Justin! Violette would be labeled as a fake executive assistant! Besides, where was Justin? He didn't even give Violette any news.

"What? He is sick?" Violette shouted in disbelief after hearing the HR Manager's explanation.

Well, it turns out that Justin can get sick too. []
